During the secondment at DIR, Secondees from UMI, TUK and LUT took part in a study visit at KB Components in Kaunas to learn about the working methods of this industrial center.
The company KB Components has its plants in Örkelljunga (Sweden), Anderstorp (Sweden), Kaunas (Lithuania), Puebla (Mexico), Wuxi (China) and Zilina (Slovakia). It serves six main market segments regarding: light vehicles, heavy vehicles, medical and furniture industry, chromium plating and the production of other industrial components, e.g. for the lighting industry, primarily from polymers and their composites.

The company’s design process is supported by simulation software for the moulding process (Mold Flow) and software for tolerance chain predictions combined with CAD software (Siemens NX, Solid Works and Solid Edge), which is integrated with 3D measurements. The company uses technologies such as injection molding and pressing, back injection moulding on textiles, IPPC composite technology, clean room injection, as well as welding – vibration, hot plate, ultrasonic and induction, adhesive bonding, tampon printing, chrome plating, painting and machining.
